Summer may well be our favourite time of the year, but mosquitoes make our summer nights a bit less joyous. While usually harmless, mosquito bites irritate both us and our skin. And since eradicating them does not befit our environmental conscience, we need to resort to alternative options and ensure a... peaceful coexistence.

Below, you will find 3+1 essential oils that not only repel and daze the mosquitoes with their strong scent but also give our summer scenery an amazing ambience!

Geranium

Geranium is known from antiquity for its insect repelling qualities. Its scent is far too intense for mosquitoes while preserving a neutral odour for humans, and rather friendly to kids and pets. One of its advantages is the fact that it is amazingly drastic when used both as a spray and as dried or fresh leaves kept in a saucer on the garden table.

Basil

Basil is one of the most popular solutions against mosquitoes - especially broadleaf basil. Mosquitoes hate the same scent most of us love. You can make the most drastic mosquito repellent by pulping basil leaves, bringing out their scent, and then add some vinegar. Just leave it by your side it will do all the work.

You can also fill your yard or balcony with pots of basil for natural protection against mosquitoes - and a wonderful natural aroma.

Citronella

Beloved and a classic option in the battle against annoying mosquitoes, citronella has such a powerful scent that eradicates human smell from the sensors of the mosquitoes. We find it in several forms, as an essential oil, for example, or in candles, in saturated fire-brands, as well as raw, in its natural form. If you use it as essential oil, you can drop one or two drops on your pillows, tablecloth, or even on your candles.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is the ultimate natural year-round solution-for-all! Ideal for spring allergies and infections of the upper respiratory tract during the winter, eucalyptus takes on the battle against mosquitoes in the summer, diffusing a wonderful citrus aroma in the air that is unbearable for the mosquitoes.

So, if you have trouble too with the mosquitoes and wish to keep your blood... just for yourself, try these useful tips. The only thing you have to do is mix a quantity of each oil with some water and spray it around your garden or porch.

Alternatively, you can use these essential oils in a specially designed oil burner.

A burning tealight at the base of the oil burner diffuses the oils in the air and repels those annoying mosquitoes.

In Parapharmacie you will find all the essential oils you need to chase away the mosquitoes - and much more for treating and pampering your body and health
