If you are a woman, it is very likely that you have encountered a minor infection in the genital area at some point in your life and thus understand the importance of keeping the area around your vagina clean and healthy.

Infections, vaginitis and other various inflammations of the genitals are usually caused by microorganisms that may alter the vaginal ecology and more specifically the healthy bacteria that live in it. From spring to early autumn, the incidences increase as heat and moisture favor the growth of fungal infections and other skin irritations in the sensitive area. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t prevent the causes and keep your vagina free from infections.

Even though the intimate area of a female’s body has a natural self-cleaning system, it is still important to take good care of it through hygiene practices. Below you will find 5 basic tips that will help you stay healthy and learn how to take good care of the intimate area.

Gynaecologist

Regular check-ups and professional advice from you gynaecologist are simply an essential part of taking care of your health.

Choose the right underwear

Wearing breathable underwear made of cotton and washing them at 60 degrees without adding fabric softener can lower the risk for vaginal infections and irritation. Also, don’t forget to iron your underwear.
Extra tip: Avoid tight underwear and clothes and change underwear immediately after being away for a long time as the sweat and moisture can lead to vaginal infections.

Choose loose clothing

Squeezing into tight and skinny clothing may not be as healthy. Once returning home from work or from the Gym, choose to wear loose pants as sweating may lead to vaginal infections.

Eat yoghurt

Yoghurt can help improve vaginal health and prevent infections as it contains probiotics which protect women from bad bacteria infiltrating the vagina.

Daily cleaning routine

And of course, do not neglect daily and careful cleaning of the intimate area. When using the toilet, always wipe from front to back as this can cause a number of infections  - it’s important to teach your daughter to wipe herself correctly from a young age.

Beware of the toilets
